Let's Talk About Health Care Reform - Bergen Place Park

Grassroots supporters for health care reform announced today they will be holding a community event titled “Let's Talk About Health Care Reform” at Ballard's Bergen Place Park on Saturday, June 27th, 2009 from 10:00 am to 4pm.

“We are asking our neighbors to join us in supporting the President's call for health care reform: to reduce costs, guarantee choice and ensure quality and affordable health care for all Americans,” said Ellia Ryan, one of the event's organizers. They believe raising awareness about the issues surrounding health care reform will encourage more public involvement and help bring about constructive change.

Participants will walk through and around Bergen Place Park displaying placards describing their own experiences and views regarding health care in America, distribute leaflets, sign up volunteers for future events and discuss subjects such as:

  • the “single payer” health system idea
  • the “public option” health plan
  • mandatory health insurance
  • potential taxes on health insurance benefits
  • choice of doctors and health plans
  • the effect of pre-existing conditions on coverage

State Senator Jeanne Kohl-Welles and State Rep. Mary Lou Dickerson will be attending the event. In addition, members of the medical community will be on hand to provide free blood pressure tests and massages.
